Eleven candidates including 24-year-old John Kutumba vying for the presidential seat in Uganda’s coming presidential election have kicked off their campaign today.
The candidates include the long-serving incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, two army generals who are Mr. Museveni’s former war compatriots, a musician turned politician – Robert Kyagulanyi famously known as Bobi Wine.
Others are a 24-year-old unemployed university graduate, John Kutumba, Patrick Oboi Amuriat, Democratic Party’s Nobert Mao among other candidates.
Justice Byabakama announced his candidacy last week after he was turned down on the 3rd of November for showing up with money instead of receipts to show fulfilment for the requirements.
He is an independent presidential candidate who has chosen a table as his symbol.
Speaking on his choice of insignia, Byabakama remarked that: “I chose this is because I want all matters to be solved on a table and not by using force,” he said.
“We need to understand that we are one and should not resort to violence.”
On his part, the 24-year-old university graduate John Kutumba told newsmen that he will focus on eliminating unemployment in the country if voted into power.
“If others can, we can also make it. I will fight unemployment. I am a fresh graduate from Makerere University and I know what it means to go without a job,” Katumba said.
He also said, “Our currency is devalued, I know the problem and I am the solution to it. We export less and import more. Even the companies that make products for export are not for Ugandans.”
“I am going to fight poverty starting with our minds. There is nothing impossible when God is on our side. Many of us are limited by our minds because we think that doing some things is impossible,” he added.
The 24-year-old unemployed graduate will stand against three army war veterans and seven experienced politicians.
