Reigning World title holder, Tobi Amusan, again showed up as expected on Sunday August 7, 2022, when she broke another record to win 100m hurdles in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
In the final, Amusan blazed past her opponents to the applause of many.
She is now the first Nigerian track and field athlete and the second in history to successfully defend a Commonwealth Games 100m hurdles title.
The world champion has also defended her Commonwealth Games title, which she won in 2018 in Gold Coast, Australia.
Amusan is currently the only Nigerian athlete in history to complete a grand slam of titles at the continental, Commonwealth and world levels after winning gold at the 22nd African Athletics championships in Mauritius in June and the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA last month.
Amusan had qualified for the women’s 100-meter hurdles final on Friday at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
She faced off against Danielle Williams and Megan Tapper of Jamaica, Cindy Sembre of England, Michelle Jenneke of Australia, and Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas.
