All is now set for the formal inauguration of Kenya’s president-elect election, William Ruto along with his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, an event slated to hold at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani next week Tuesday.
This comes as the government has announced a public holiday for the event which will see Ruto, the deputy president succeed how boss, Uhuru Kenyatta who will bow out of office.
William Ruto’s victory was sealed at the Supreme Court on Monday with a unanimous judgement affirming his election at the August 9 presidential polls in which he narrowly defeated the veteran opposition leader and former prime minister, Raila Odinga.
Head of assumption of office committee, Joseph Kinyua at a press conference on Tuesday said the oath of office will be administered by the Registrar of Judiciary in the presence of the Chief Justice.
The assumption of office committee also has as members, Attorney General Kihara Kariuki, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Veronica Maina, Davis Chirchir (Chief of staff office of the Deputy President), Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Shollei and outgoing National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.
“The date of swearing in will be a public holiday of general observance throughout the territory of the republic,” Kinyua stated.
The constitution of the country allows the swearing in ceremony to take place any time between the hours of 10.00am and 02.00pm.
Kinyua said the swearing in ceremony is an opportunity for the county to celebrate the strength and vibrancy of Constitution 2010 and the country’s democratic process.
He also called on Kenyans to join hands as the country transitions into the fifth administration, so as to continue building the country.
“For that reason, the eyes of Africa and indeed the rest of the world will be on Kenya on that day. In that regard Kenyans are invited to be part of this historic event,” he said.
Other members listed in the assumption of office committee include Interior CS Fred Matiangi, IG Hillary Mutyambai, Chief of Defense forces Robert Kibochi, Director General of the National Intelligence Service Philip Kameru, Solicitor General Kennedy Ogeto, State house Comptroller Kinuthia Mbugua, PS Treasury Julius Muia, PS Sports Joe Okudo, PS Culture Josephta Mukobe, PS Devolution Julius Korir, PS Foreign Affairs Macharia Kamau, PS ICT Jerome Ochieng and PS Telecommunications Esther Koimett.
Others are, Principal Administrative Secretary Cabinet Affairs office Kihara, Clerk of National Assembly Serah Kioko, Clerk of Senate Jeremiah Nyengenye, Chief Registrar of Judiciary Ann Amadi, Secretary Intergovernmental relations technical committee Agnes Muthoni, Head of Cabinet Secretariat Jasper Mbiuki and Secretary Administration Office of the President Aggrey Busena.
