The Abuja-Kaduna rail service is scheduled to resume operations on Monday, November 28, 2022.
This is coming eight months after the service was suspended due to terrorists’ attack on the line that killed scores and led to the abduction of many.
Earlier this month, the federal government said operations will resume on the corridor by the end of November after the abductees had been safely reunited with their families.
Local news outlet The Punch reports that some contractors were at the Idu rail station to install the tracker and cameras to improve security of rail operations.
“They couldn’t install the cameras but they installed the trackers on LOKO 2809 and on DMU 003,” said a source familiar with developments on the rail line.
“The Managing Director, Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Fidet Okhiria, is seriously monitoring it from Lagos.
“We are proposing to start running by next week Monday,” the source said.
Similarly, spokesman for the NRC, Mr. Yakub Mahmoud, told local news medium, Daily Trust that services on the Abuja-Kaduna rail will resume on Monday.
He added that the NRC will release details on the operations on Sunday to the general public.
