The Nigeria Immigration Service, (NIS) have rescued eleven victims rom being trafficked to ligya by human traffickers.
The victims who were all young women, were apprehended in the Niger Republic on their way to Libya and repatriated back to Nigeria and handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, (NAPTIP), in Sokoto for further action.
A statement from the Public Relations Officer, (PRO), of the service, Tony Akuneme, stated that the victims were brought in by the NIS Ilela command before being handed over to NAPTIP.
Comptroller of Immigration, Illela Border Command, Ado Rano Sabo, explained that the young women are from different parts of the country and of ages ranging from 19 to 37 years.
Sabo advised Nigerians to desist from undertaking such perilous journeys, noting that most victims end up being used for labour exploitation, prostitution, or organ harvesting.
