Four African countries – Nigeria, Senegal, Guinea and Tunisia were on Friday April 21, drawn in various groups with their opponents at the forthcoming 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup.
The global soccer fiesta for the youths is scheduled for May 20 to June 11.
For Nigeria, the country’s team mostly known as the Flying Eagles, are in Group D, where they will face Brazil, Italy and Dominican.
Nigeria, Africa’s number three team was slotted into the tough Group D at the draw ceremony for the tournament held at the House of FIFA in Zurich, with hosts Argentina heading Group A that also has Uzbekistan, Guatemala and New Zealand.
Senegal, Champions of recently U20 Africa Cup of Nations will battle Japan, Israel, Colombia in Group C.
The fixtures also pitched U20 AFCON runners up Guinea, France, Korea Republic, and Honduras in Group F.
Continental fourth-placed Tunisia is in Group E alongside Uruguay, Iraq and England.
In Group B, USA, Ecuador, Fiji Islands and Slovakia will slug out it.
Argentina is the most successful nation since the competition was launched in Tunisia in 1977.
The South American nation has won the tournament six times, the last being in 2007. It also hosted the competition 22 years ago.
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have finished as runners-up on two occasions – in Saudi Arabia in 1989 and in The Netherlands in 2005. They were bronze medalists in the USSR in 1985.
