The World Soccer ruling body, FIFA, has revealed the latest ranking in women’s football, few weeks to the kick-off of the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Specifically, the global women soccer fiesta is scheduled between July 20 and August 20.
Women’s rankings are done every three months and this month’s ranking will be the last before the World Cup.
From An African Perspective
According to the latest ranking released on Friday morning, Nigeria’s Super Falcon occupied the 40th position in the World and the top spot in Africa after securing 1554.94 points.
The improvement in Nigeria’s rankings is a result of the victory recorded in the last round of international friendly games.
African champions South Africa is placed 54th in the World and second in Africa, while Cameroon is in 56th position in the World and third in Africa.
Ghana 58th and Ivory Coast 66th complete Africa’s top five countries in the rankings.
Equatorial Guinea, Morocco, Tunisia, Zambia and Algeria are placed in sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th positions.
Another ranking is expected after the World Cup.
Players’ World Cup Earnings
Meanwhile, every player is guaranteed to earn at least $30,000 for participating at the mundial, according to FIFA.
The global football body also revealed that the winning team will earn up to $270,000.
This was disclosed in a statement by FIFA communications department.
According to the statement, the amount for each player increases depending on how far teams go in the tournament.
The ring-fencing of money for players is a first and its investment is three times what it was at the Women’s World Cup in France four years ago.
