Both Nigeria and Canada failed to make their mark on the matchday four of the World Scrabble Championship held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, after the hosts took the Shine away.
Jighere’s Fall, Others Lifting
That was because former World Champion, Wellington Jighere, who stayed on top of the table for the past three days lost his last two rounds of games to Adam Logan of Canada and David Eldar of Australia.
The two back-to-back defeats mean Wellington Jighere, 2015 World Champion will not play the best of 7 final.
Jighere secured 22 wins from 32 games to end the championship in 4th position.
Report from US revealed that David Eldar, a former World Champion from Australia will now face Harshan Lamabadusuriya of England in the best of 7 final.
Harshan Lamabadusuriya who is playing in his first World Championship final won one game more than Wellington Jighere while David Eldar reached the final with 22 wins and a draw.
Nsikak Solomon Etim at number 14, Enoch Nwali at number 17, Tuoyo Mayuku occupied the 25th spot and Eta Karo at number 35 completes Nigeria’s top 5 at the end of the World Championship.
Charles Haizel Tachie-Menson is Ghana’s highest-ranked player at number 8.
Patrick Mulemena Mpundu of Zambia finished in the 65th position as the best player from southern Africa, Steven Gruzd topped the South Africa’s chart at number 88 while the man who represented the Pearl of Africa, Uganda, Chris Ntege came 97th behind Sierra Leone’s Ibrahim Deen Swaray and 117th placed Wenwa Akinyi is finest Kenyan at Las Vegas.
