As the year draws to a close, we look at a list of top five summer signings in 2020 that have failed to make a mark at their new clubs.
# 5 Timo Werner
The German international joined the Blues in a big-money deal from German giants RB Leipzig back in June, and has struggled for form of late, currently finding himself on a run of 11 games without a goal in all competitions.
The 24-year-old arrived England with a huge reputation after hitting the net 28 times in the Bundesliga last campaign.
However, Werner has not gotten into his best shape as calls have been made to his boss at Chelsea Frank Lampard to have him dropped.
# 4 Mauro Icardi
Things have not gone all so well for Mauro Icardi at PSG. He showed plenty of goals in his first season, but he looked very inconsistent.
The Argentine scored 24 goals in 30 games for PSG in his first season on loan from Italian club Inter Milan—where he incredible spell before the French giants opted to make the move permanent with a four-year contract in 2020.
# 3 Thomas Partey
After a reasonably good individual year for Atletico Madrid, one of Africa’s brightest exports secured his dream move to Arsenal on Deadline Day.
Unfortunately, injuries have blighted the midfielder’s time in England so far, as the 27-year-old has seen just 566 minutes of action. His last game for the Gunners was a Premier League London derby against Spurs where he hobbled off the pitch in a 2 – 0 defeat.
#2 Kai Havertz
The former Bayern Leverkusen star was part of Frank Lampard’s summer swoop in a bid to build a formidable Chelsea team to challenge for titles.
However, Havertz has scored just once in the Premier League this term after completing a move believed to be worth around £90m.
The German has struggled to adapt to the demands of the Premier League and the fans are already running out of patience with the lad following a successive run of poor performances in defeats to Everton and Wolves.
# 1 Victor Osimhen
The Nigerian forward has featured eight times for Napoli and scored twice since he joined the Italian outfit in a deal reported to be worth €50 million (£45m/$59m).
Despite the huge outlay, Napoli boss Gennaro Gattuso has warned fans not to expect too much from Osimhen, saying “it’s not like we signed Pele or Maradona”.
Osimhen scored 18 goals in 38 games for Lille but has struggled to make a statement in the Serie A.
The 22-year-old has been on the sideline for a month after he picked up a shoulder injury while on international duty in November.
Although, reports making the rounds suggest that the Super Eagles forward is near a return to action.
