Julian Nagelsmann has been announced as the new German National Team Head Coach.
This was disclosed by the German Football Federation on Friday via its X Page, formerly known as Twitter.
The message notifying his appointment simply reads, “We’re delighted to confirm that Julian will lead the national team as Head Coach for next summer’s UEFA European Championship in Germany.
According to the German football body, the former Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich coach has agreed to lead Germany into next summer’s European Championship on home soil following the departure of Hansi Flick earlier in September, signing a contract until 31 July, 2024. His assistants will be Sandro Wagner and Benjamin Glück.
Reacting to his appointment, Nagelsmann said, “We have a European Championship in our own country. That’s something special, something that only comes around every few decades.
“I’m really up for taking on this challenge. The display in Dortmund [against France] was the start. We’ll become a band of brothers over the next year.”
Also speaking, DFB sporting director Rudi Völler said, “Julian was our desired candidate from the start. He isn’t just an absolute footballing man but has already proven at all his clubs – at a very young age for a head coach – that he can motivate a team and the entire surroundings.
“His fire for football is palpable and contagious. Julian will contribute at a key point with his qualities and character that we have a great Euros in our own country in the summer.”
Nagelsmann is the 12th person to be Germany manager.
