Kenya’s Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kithure Kindiki has announced that 25,000 households displaced from the Nairobi Rivers corridors have received the Sh10,000 aid promised by the government.
The remaining 15,000 households will receive their payments by Friday.
Kindiki stated this on Monday when he toured the ongoing reclamation and rehabilitation works on various sections of the Nairobi Rivers Corridor that was badly affected by the floods.
Kindiki said the ministry is committed to execute President William Ruto’s directive to support all 40,000 affected households.
He noted that those displaced will be prioritized in the ongoing affordable housing program.
The Interior CS also confirmed the government’s plan to provide financial assistance for rent over the next three months and emphasized the importance of ensuring the aid reaches the intended recipients.
Heritage Times HT recalls that President Ruto, during a visit to the flood-affected Mathare area on May 6, assured residents that each household would receive Sh10,000 for alternative accommodation.
President Ruto had pledged that the government would provide sufficient food and supplies to ensure no one goes hungry.
“We have enough money to buy food for everyone affected by floods in Nairobi and across the country,” he stated during his tour of the Kiamaiko area, reassuring residents of continued government support.
