World record holder Tobi Amusan on Friday failed to qualify for the final of the 100m hurdles event at the ongoing Paris Olympics Games.
Her failure to reach the final is obviously the end of the road for Team Nigeria’s hope of any medal at the 2024 Olympics
This was after Amusan finished third in her Heat with a time of 12.55 seconds.
Having missed out on the two automatic spots, she was hoping to sneak through as one of the fastest losers.
Unfortunately the time wasn’t enough to see Amusan earn a spot in the last eight.
Amusan, the 100m Hurdles World Record holder, made a statement at the Paris 2024 Olympics, winning her heat and advancing to the semifinals with a blistering time of 12.49 seconds on Wednesday. However, she failed to improve on that in Friday’s semi-final.
Relay Disqualification
Meanwhile, the quartet of Emmanuel Ojeli, Ezekiel Nathanial, Dubem Amene, and Chidi Okezie on Friday morning failed to qualify for the final of men’s 4x400m despite finishing second in the semi-final.
They were initially meant to make it to the final scheduled for Saturday, but World Athletics officials later announced that one of the quartets failed to run in accordance with lane rules.
Aside the technical judgement that has now ruled them out with South Africa announced in Nigeria’s place, this is the fastest time a Nigerian 4×4 quartet has recorded since 2004.
Taekwondo
Also on Friday, another Nigerian athlete Elizabeth Anyanacho didn’t go pass the round of 16 in the -67kg of the tee action.
Anyanacho participated at the Olympics a second time.
