Mozambique’s Energy Regulatory Authority (ARENE) has announced a significant reduction in fuel prices, with cuts of up to 17.7%, effective from Thursday.
This adjustment reflects global market trends and exchange rate fluctuations, aiming to ease the financial burden on consumers.
The most substantial price drop is in kerosene, which will decrease from 87.05 to 69.35 meticais per litre (approximately $1.40 to $1.10). Since kerosene is widely used by low-income households, ARENE noted that this reduction would improve affordability and household purchasing power.
Diesel, a key fuel for transportation and industrial operations, will also see a price cut from 91.23 to 86.89 meticais per litre, a move expected to lower overall production and logistics costs across various sectors.
Petrol prices, however, will decrease slightly by 0.49%, dropping from 86.25 to 85.82 meticais per litre, while the price of LPG cooking gas will remain unchanged at 86.05 meticais per kilogramme.
ARENE explained that the fuel price adjustments were influenced by multiple factors, including the appreciation of the US dollar in Brent futures market negotiations, which led to a decline in fuel demand and, consequently, lower global prices.
This price revision is part of Mozambique’s periodic strategy to align domestic fuel costs with international market dynamics, ensuring stability and affordability for both businesses and consumers.
