Egypt has urged all warring factions in Libya to prioritize national unity and immediately halt the intensifying armed clashes in Tripoli, warning that the violence risks spiraling into full-scale conflict.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cairo expressed deep concern over the renewed hostilities in the Libyan capital, cautioning that continued fighting could destabilize the country and pose grave risks to civilians.

“The ongoing confrontations not only endanger civilian lives but also threaten the unity of Libya and the integrity of its national institutions,” the statement said. Egypt called on all parties to exercise restraint, avoid further bloodshed, and return to dialogue as the only viable path to lasting peace.

The ministry also issued an advisory to Egyptian citizens in Libya, urging them to stay indoors, remain alert, and maintain close communication with the Egyptian embassy in Tripoli adding that a dedicated emergency hotline has been activated to assist nationals in need.

The clashes, which have rattled Tripoli in recent days, pit forces loyal to the Government of National Unity against the Special Deterrence Force (Radaa), supported by military units from Libya’s western region.

At the heart of the conflict are efforts to gain control of key security installations that have reportedly resisted an order from the Prime Minister to be placed under the authority of the Libyan Army.

The fresh wave of violence marks yet another setback in Libya’s fragile security environment, with regional actors like Egypt voicing growing alarm over the potential fallout if tensions are not quickly deescalated.
