Former US President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, according to a statement released by his personal office on Sunday.
The 82-year-old was recently evaluated after experiencing worsening urinary symptoms. Doctors discovered a prostate nodule, and further tests confirmed a diagnosis of prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5), indicating a high-grade tumor that has spread to the bones.
Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, the statement noted that the cancer is hormone-sensitive, which offers treatment options and potential for management.
Biden and his family are currently consulting with his medical team to determine the best course of action.
This announcement comes just months after Biden left office, having stepped down following internal party pressure over concerns about his mental sharpness.
He was succeeded by President Donald Trump after choosing not to seek re-election.
