Sports-loving Pope Leo XIV has received Italy’s newly crowned Serie A champions Napoli at the Vatican.
While receiving the club’s delegation, the Pope shared a joke about his own football allegiances.
He said, “The press says I am an AS Roma fan, but you are welcome! This is what the press says. Not everything you read in the press is true.”
Presenting a blue jersey No. 10 signed by players and bearing the Pope’s Italian name “Papa Leone XIV” to the Pontiff, Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis said, “You are a number 10, so you are a great striker.”
Pope Leo replied with a chuckle and a simple, “Thank you.”
