Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has passed away in an undisclosed clinic in London.
His death announcement was contained in a statement signed by his former spokesperson, Garba Shehu, on behalf of the family.
The terse message reads: “The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin.”
Buhari served as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023, following an earlier tenure as military head of state from 1983 to 1985.
Born on December 17, 1942, in Daura, Buhari was known for his strong anti-corruption stance and was widely respected by his military peers as a disciplined officer.
