After a disappointing World Athletics Championship loss in Budapest, Nigeria’s sprint sensation, Tobi Amusan, has roared back to win the 2023 Diamond League in Eugene Oregon.
Amusan, an existing World record holder blazed to 12.33 seconds to win the keenly contested 100m hurdles late Sunday night.
She smartly toppled Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quin who came second in 12.38s, and USA’s Kendra Harrison 12.44s in third.
The Nigerian athlete won her first Diamond League trophy in 2021 in 12.42 seconds and defended the title last year after dipping 12.29 seconds in Zurich.
She has now become the second woman in Diamond League history after Dawn Nelson-Harper to win a hat-trick of 100m hurdles titles.
Amusan’s 2023 season has been hampered by controversy.
During the lead-up to the 2023 World Athletics Championships, she was provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unity (AIU) for allegedly “missing three tests in 12 months”.
At the moment, she appears to be off the hook after the Athletics Integrity Unit within stipulated time failed to appeal the lifting of her ban, few days to the World championship.
