After failing to host at the initial slated date in November, Kenya have now reclaimed the bid to stage the Zone 5 Beach Volleyball qualifiers for 2025 Olympic Games in Paris and the rescheduled African Games in Accra, Ghana.
A new date for the qualifier is now between December 20 and 23, 2023.
This was disclosed by the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) via a letter to the Kenya Volleyball Federation.
According to the CAVB President Fernand Ruterana, the decision was reached unanimously during the recent Zonal Club Championships in Kigali, Rwanda.
He added that each country will be afforded men and women’s team comprising two players each.
“Every federation will present not more than two couples in women and men respectively and will be accompanied by not more than one head of delegation, one coach, one physio, and one international referee,” Ruterana said.
The last edition of these qualifiers were held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in 2020, where Kenya and Rwanda women’s team qualified to the next stage.
The Kenyan team qualified for the Tokyo Games in 2021 after defeating Nigeria 2-1 at the Africa Continental Cup in Agadir, Morocco.
The top three teams after the upcoming qualifiers will contest for the sole Olympics ticket while the winner will book the African Games place.
