President Muhammadu Buhari has solicited the help of traditional rulers in addressing the demands of Nigerian youths.
The President made the appeal during his meeting with a delegation of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to him, the imperative of support of traditional rulers will ensure that his administration effectively delivers on implementing the demands of the country’s youths.
The President who noted that the proximity of traditional rulers’ to the people makes them wield high sphere of influence, urged the traditional rulers to not to compromise their neutrality to safeguard their moral authority and legitimacy.
He also noted that his Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari has been directed to lead senior government officials to various parts of the country as part of efforts geared towards tasking traditional rulers on the need to promote moral authority and legitimacy.
President Buhari went on to thank the traditional rulers for the pacifying roles they played in calming down youths who recently embarked on nationwide protests.
Upon receiving the recommendations of the traditional rulers, he promised to study them and take appropriate action.
Responding, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar the 3rd, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja the 2nd, who led the delegation, assured President Buhari that they would do their utmost best to maintain peace in their domains.
Present at the meeting were at least two foremost traditional rulers representing each geo-political zone.
