As insecurity continued to ravage the nation, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday charged the National Assembly to cut short its vacation and summon President Muhammadu Buhari.

Making this call while addressing reporters in Abuja, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party’s spokesman further called on the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and other relevant stakeholders to rescue the country from terrorists and bandits.

The party alerted that the security situation in the country has gone so bad that school children cannot go to schools, farmers cannot go to farms and most unfortunately, the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, was desecrated by bandits to the extent that they entered the academy and snuffed live out of two officers and took one away effortlessly.

The party lamented that the nation is collapsing under the watch of President Buhari as bandits and criminals are operating freely from every party of the country, including the home state of the president.

The party further pointed out that the security situation has so much deteriorated that Governor of Katsina State, Buhari’s home state, had to ask his citizens to seek for any means to protect themselves.

According to the opposition party, the president has only paid lip service to issues of insecurity, adding that the Buhari administration has failed to implement a blueprint the PDP provided on addressing insecurity.

“What we are getting is lip service to the issue of internal security. As a result, the PDP, you may recall, in this same hall provided a blueprint for the purposes of direction for the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. But like I like said, the commander-in-chief has not been able to implement any of the recommendations put forward by the Peoples Democratic Party.

“We cannot continue this way. We cannot continue to put our hope on nothing — in a situation where our children cannot go to school; in a situation that farmers cannot go to their farmlands. Already, we are witnessing a rise in the cost of food items, and how Nigerians, on a daily basis, are going hungry.

“We hereby, as a party, call on the national assembly to cautiously assess. They should return to plenary and apply their drastic legislative instruments by summoning President Muhammadu Buhari to the national assembly in an open session to come and tell Nigerians why our nation has fared this worse, and why the security apparatus of our country has totally collapsed in the hands of President Muhammadu Buhari,” he added.
