Economic Challenges:

Tinubu admitted that many Nigerians are grappling with economic difficulties, particularly the high cost of living and joblessness. He appealed for patience, assuring the people, “I recognize the difficulties you face, and I assure you that this government is implementing reforms to ease your burdens.”

Progress in Tackling Insecurity:

The President noted improvements in national security, stating that more than 300 Boko Haram and bandit leaders had been neutralized. “We have achieved notable successes in the fight against insecurity, and I assure you that we are committed to completely eradicating terrorism, banditry, and violent extremism,” he said.

Growth in Foreign Investments:

Tinubu pointed out that Nigeria has secured over $30 billion in foreign direct investments within the last year, signalling growing confidence in the country’s economy. “The growing confidence in our economy is evident, and we will continue to maintain fiscal stability to attract even more investments,” he emphasized.

Push for Agricultural Growth:

The President encouraged state governments to adopt strategies that will boost agricultural production. He announced the approval of a new plant to assemble 2,000 John Deere tractors and other farming equipment aimed at assisting farmers across the nation. “We have approved the establishment of a local assembly plant for 2,000 John Deere tractors and other farm equipment to support farmers nationwide.”

Expanding CNG Use in Public Transportation:

The President introduced plans to broaden the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in public transit systems. “This initiative aims to provide affordable and environmentally friendly transit options for all Nigerians,” Tinubu remarked, adding that it will be implemented with the help of private partners.

Upcoming National Youth Conference:

A 30-day conference focusing on youth-related issues such as education, job creation, and innovation will be held. “We believe in the power of our youth, and this conference will empower them to actively contribute to national development,” he said.

Programs for Youth Employment:

Tinubu launched the Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP), with the goal of creating 2.5 million jobs annually. “Our goal is to create more opportunities for our young people,” he noted, referring to the rollout of the 3 million Technical Talents program and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.

Forex Market Assurance:

Addressing concerns about the foreign exchange market, the President reassured Nigerians, “Despite the challenges we have faced, we have managed to stabilize the forex market, and our foreign reserves remain strong at $37 billion.” He also noted that the Central Bank had addressed a $7 billion forex backlog, in addition to settling debts exceeding N30 trillion.

National Awards for Distinguished Citizens:

As part of the Independence Day events, Tinubu announced the individuals selected for national honors in 2024. “It is my honor to recognize those who have made significant contributions to our nation,” he stated, acknowledging notable figures such as the Senate President and the Chief Justice.

Appeal for National Unity:

In his final remarks, Tinubu called for Nigerians to remain hopeful, unified, and resilient in confronting the nation’s difficulties. “Let us stand together as one nation, confident in our ability to overcome any obstacle. Better days are ahead for Nigeria,” he concluded.
