Borno State House of Assembly has urged the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to deploy all personnel of the now-dissolved Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) to Borno State.
The lawmakers made the call on Tuesday in Maiduguri during plenary presided by the state’s Deputy Speaker, Hon Abdullahi Askira.
The house which unanimously acknowledged that SARS has been helpful in counter-insurgency operations, cited the dissolved unit’s contributions to repelling attacks on the convoy of Borno state Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum as a key example of their importance.
“We are in dire need of the services of SARS personnel in the state due to our peculiar challenges” Abdullahi Askira stated.
Meanwhile, the Network of Civil Society Organisation has held a peaceful rally for the deployment of SARS to Borno state.
The rally which started at Bolori roundabout to Government House has over 500 NGOs, clubs and Associations in attendance.
Speaking to newsmen during the rally, the chairman of the Network Ambassador, Ahmed Shehu said the peculiarities of Borno state and the role played by SARS were enough reasons for men of the dissolved unit to be deployed to the state.
