Reactions have continued to trail the 31-man provisional list released by coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr ahead of this month’s 2022 AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho.
Captain of the side, Ahmed Musa was named in the squad for the double-header clash but his inclusion has come under severe criticism as the 28-year-old forward has been without a club since last October.
The former CSKA Moscow striker, who was in line for a move to English Premier League club, West Brom saw it hit the rock after the Baggies backed out of the deal.
Reacting to Musa’s invitation, former Super Eagles winger Emmanuel Amuneke said: “Professionally and morally, Ahmed Musa should not be on the list because he is not engaged in a competitive league.
“He should not have been invited.
“He has given so much to the country and was probably brought in to motivate the younger players in the team.
“It’s for the coach to give reasons why he invited this player.”
Although, Musa remains the country’s highest goal scorer in World Cup history as he already has four goals to his name in two previous outings.
Rohr invited a number of new faces into the Super Eagles camp for the qualifiers. The duo of Umar Sadiq, who plays in the Spanish Segunda for Almeria and Enyimba goalkeeper John Noble could be handed their debut game.
In form Genk striker Paul Onuach and Lorient goal wonder Terem Moffi are among those placed on standby.
The Super Eagles will face Benin at the Stade Charles de Gaulle , Porto Novo on Saturday, March 27 and later host Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on Tuesday, March 30 in their final two games in the qualifiers.
