Leicester City and Super Eagles duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi will take to the pitch on Saturday to face Premier League Champions, Manchester City for their Community Shield clash at the Wembley stadium.
Leicester secured their first ever FA Cup trophy last season courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the final on May 15.
The duo were instrumental in Leicester’s run to the FA Cup title last term. They played in all the games from the third round, although Iheanacho didn’t start the first two.
Iheanacho became the Foxes best player from the fifth round and carried them amidst injury crisis that rocked the team.
The 25-year-old started scoring game after game. He scored the winner with the last play of the game in the fifth round 1-0 win over Brighton before that fantastic brace in the quarterfinals against Manchester United.
He continued his streak with the only goal in the semifinals against Southampton that got the Foxes to the final.
However, his compatriot, Ndidi didn’t score in the FA Cup last season, but he wasn’t less important to the cause.
He started five of the six games, including the final and was influential in defensive midfield.
There is a chance that Wilfred Ndidi could be pressed into action alongside Soyuncu at the back, with Ricardo Pereira and Bertrand lining up in the full-back positions.
Iheanacho could be given the nod alongside Jamie Vardy as part of a front two, with new boy Patson Daka starting on the bench.
Should Leicester win against Manchester City, Iheanacho and Ndidi will join the exclusive list of Nigerian players to lift the Community Shield trophy.
Meanwhile, a player of Nigerian descent, Samuel Edozie – who have impressed for the English champions during pre-season will also be in action.
