A 102-year-old woman has declared her interest to vie for Nigeria’s presidency in 2023.
The grandma identified as Nonye Josephine Ezeanyaeche hails from Aguata LGA in Anambra State.
She made known her intention to run for presidency in a media event at Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) office in the nation’s capital city, Abuja.
Mama Africa (as she’s fondly called) said “she has great and laudable plans to be executed in Nigeria if given the mandate.”
According to her, she is ready and willing to contest if the younger generation of Nigerians are not ready.
“If Nigerians are shying away from political participation, especially the younger ones, I am ready to present myself.
“I have my manifesto ready, and I have the vision to move this country forward,” she said.
What you should know
Nigeria does not have an upper age limit for candidates running for the presidency.
A law passed into law in 2018 slashed the minimum age for presidential candidates from 40 years to 35 years.
Ezeanyaeche joins a long list of presidential candidates, including All Progressive Congress (APC) party chairman, Ahmed Tinubu, Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi and Senate Chief Whip Orji Uzor Kalu.
