World record holder and Nigerian sprint sensation Tobi Amusan finished third, but clocked her new season best of 12.47secs in Women’s 100m hurdles at the just concluded Golden Spike at Ostrava, Czech Republic on Tuesday June 27, 2023.
Amusan dropped behind winner Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (12.42s) and second placed Tia Jones (12.44s) on the track.
Men’s Category
In the men’s category, South African speedster Akani Simbine won 100m in 9.98s, warding off his closest challenger, European Indoor Champion Samuele Ceccarelli of Italy in 10.15s and Canada’s Andre de Grasse (10.21s) in third.
Zambia’s Muzala Samunkonga won the 400m men’s race in 45.05s to clinch five out of six races this season.
With a meet record of 3:57.38, Diribe Welteji of Ethiopia won the women’s 1500m.
Next Hurdle
Amusan will on Friday June 30, 2023, engage in another track race known as Diamond League in Lausanne.
Heritage Times HT reports that at the League, she will be in a lineup also featuring Camacho-Quinn, Ali, Jones, and the impressive Alaysha Johnson, who has been one of the standout performers this season.
The competition will be fierce, with each athlete determined to claim victory and etch their name in the annals of track and field history.
Amusan had won the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica, where she showcased her dominance by triumphing in a convincing Season’s Best time of 12.57 seconds earlier this season.
The competitions are taking place ahead of World Championship in Budapest on August.
