The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has summoned all its Ambassadors back from the countries they were stationed in.
The move was confirmed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, via a statement made by his Special Adviser on Media, Al-Kashim Abdul-Kadir.
In the statement, it was specified: “Following inquiries regarding the recall of the Nigerian ambassador to the UK, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has reaffirmed that all career ambassadors and non-career ambassadors have been summoned on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Ambassadors act as representatives of their country, serving under the President’s authority, and it’s his prerogative to appoint or recall them from any nation.”
There had been earlier reports about the recall of Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Sarafa Tunji Ishola.
However, the Federal Government clarified that Ambassador Ishola and other Nigerian career ambassadors are expected to start wrapping up their duties in their respective host countries and formally bid farewell to their host governments within a 60-day timeframe.
The statement adds that their return to Nigeria should be no later than October 31, 2023.
The Minister expressed gratitude for their service while representing Nigeria abroad and “looks forward to welcoming them in Abuja upon their return.”
