The United States issued a warning on Monday, stating that an Israeli ceasefire in Gaza would benefit Hamas.

The warning comes as the European Union is considering a call for a humanitarian pause.

“Ceasing hostilities would provide Hamas with the opportunity to regroup, rearm, and prepare for further terrorist attacks against Israel,” cautioned State Department spokesman Matthew Miller during a press briefing.

He stressed that the situation is deemed intolerable, not only for Israel but for any nation facing a relentless terrorist threat along its borders.

Miller also revealed that the United States is working independently to ensure a consistent flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza. U.S. envoy David Satterfield is on the ground, dedicatedly engaged in efforts to facilitate aid distribution.

EU Backs Humanitarian Pause

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell expressed his expectation that EU leaders will endorse the proposal for a temporary ceasefire.

This pause would serve to enable the delivery of humanitarian aid and provide shelter to those displaced by the conflict.

“I believe that the idea of a humanitarian pause to facilitate the arrival of humanitarian aid, which would allow displaced persons to find shelter, is something that the leaders will support,” Borrell stated after discussions with EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.
