Vietnam’s National Assembly on Monday voted to appoint three new deputy prime ministers during an extraordinary meeting in Hanoi which was held to deal with personnel issues.
The new deputy prime ministers announced during the meeting, which was broadcast live on national television include, foreign minister Bui Thanh Son, finance minister Ho Duc Phoc and chief justice Nguyen Hoa Binh.
This is the latest high-level political changes of the Communist Party-led government.
Also at the meeting, the tenure of two deputy prime ministers were brought to an end.
Tran Luu Quang was appointed as head of the Communist Party’s Central Economic Committee last week, while Le Minh Khai had been disciplined by the Politburo earlier this month “for violating party rules”
These key changes are happening at a period of political turbulence in the country in which two state Presidents and a parliament speaker stepped down over accusations of “wrongdoing”.
With the new appointments, there are now five deputy prime ministers working under prime minister Pham Minh Chinh.
