Bendel Insurance of Nigeria on Saturday narrowly defeated Algeria’s Aso Chlef 1-0 in the first leg preliminary stage of CAF Confederation Cup staged in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
The Nigerian side started well but slipped to a low pace thereafter.
However, it was in the first half that they scored the only goal of the encounter.
Coached by Monday Adigie, the club also referred to as Benin Arsenal, will take a slim advantage into the second leg of the preliminary encounter against ASO Chlef.
The return tie will be played in Algeria on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Mohamed Boumezrag Stadium.
The Algerians will need to score at least two unreplied goals to secure qualification into the next round.
CAF Champions League Clash
Meanwhile, another Nigerian club, Remo Stars, are currently in Ghana for their first leg preliminary CAF Champions League clash against Medeama SC.
The match will be played on Sunday.
A 20-man squad as well as officials arrived the Kotoka Airport Accra from Lagos after a 45-minute flight.
The team which flew aboard ValueJet airlines, suffered delay in Lagos as landing rights were delayed by Ghana, Heritage Times HT gathered.
From Accra, the team then had a three-hour road trip to Cape Town and barely had an hour rest before going to the stadium to have a feel of the stadium’s pitch.
