The Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva led the Executive Secretary NCDMB, Engr. Simbi Kesiye Wabote FNSE, and other heads of agencies under the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to a two-day public hearing organized by the House of Representatives Adhoc Committee on Petroleum Industry Bill.
The two-day Public hearing with relevant stakeholders and host communities is on “A bill for an Act to Provide Legal, Governance, Regulation and Fiscal Framework for the Nigerian Petroleum Industry, the Development of Host Communities and for Related Matters Act”.
The Chairman/Chief Whip, House of Representatives in his opening address said “As we gather here, we may differ in opinion but the passage of this bill is long overdue. When this bill is finally passed, It will bring about the much needed reform in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry”.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, while declaring open the public hearing said “I have confidence in the adhoc committee of this public hearing and can I assure you of my support and that of the House of Representatives that by April this Petroleum Industry Bill will be passed”.
The Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources in his remarks said, since the bill was brought to the floor of the house by Mr. President. The President of the Senate, the House speaker and their members have worked seriously for this bill. He further said he is very confident of their commitment to speedily pass the bill.
While speaking further he said “I am confident that everyone here share the same passion which is the passage of this bill. On behalf of the president who is the Minister of Petroleum Resources, I wish you all a very fruitful deliberation”.
