Nigeria on Thursday night defeated host Cote d’ivoire 1-0 in the second group A match decided in Abidjan at the ongoing 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The only goal of the encounter came after CAF player of the year, Victor Osimhen was fouled in front of the Ivorian goalkeeper.
Goal Scoring Moment, Vital Points
William Troost-Ekong, captain of the day, then stepped up and converted it to goal to hand the Super Eagles the invaluable three points.
The Nigerian side now have four points, a tally with current group leaders Equitorial Guinea with only better goal difference.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles, three times African kings and the Thunder of Equitorial Guinea had played out 1-1 draw in their first group encounter.
The Elephants’ Tricky Tusk To Next Level
Cote D’Ivoire on their part will need to beat Equitorial Guinea in their last Group match while Nigeria will need a draw against bottom-placed Guinea Bissau to reach the Round of 16.
A win for the Super Eagles will equally ensure that they top the group heading to the knockout stage of the competition.
Nigeria will take on Guinea-Bissau Bissau in their final Group Stage match on Monday by 6pm, same time the Ivoriens will battle Equitorial Guinea.
