A first half strike by Casemiro and a second half own goal by Jan Oblak handed Real Madrid 2-0 win against rivals Atletico Madrid in the Derby.
Bad day for Diego Simeone’s men who yet again lose to their rivals at the Santiago Bernabeu having lost there last season.
Los Blancos started the game off brightly as Luka Modric cracked an effort wide from 30 yards as early as the 6th minute with Jan Oblak covering well.
And in the 10th minute, Karim Benzema saw his strike rattle the wood-work after he drove a left-footed shot from the edge of the box. Oblak got a touch and it came off the post.
The pressure paid off in the 15th minute following a Casemiro header from a Toni Kroos corner to put Zinedine Zidane’s men 1-0 ahead.
It would have been two-nil in the 38th minute following a brilliant play from Karim Benzema again. Lucas Vázquez crossed to the back stick but Oblak was swift off his line to gather the ball.
Real Madrid took the lead into the tunnel, but they knew the second 45 minutes would be a lot different.
Atleti had a big chance to equalise ten minutes into the second half when Lemar hit the post, with Simeone holding his head on the sidelines.
Recall that Lemar scored his first goal in 45 games last week against Valladolid and really should have really scored again.
They were made to rue the missed opportunity when Real Madrid made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute following a super strike from Carvajal! It hit the post, hit Oblak and crossed the line.
Atletico were unbeaten in 26 league games before the encounter, but Los Blancos put a halt to it as that was how it eventually ended; Real Madrid 2-0 Atletico Madrid.
