The Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has entered partnership with Nigerian National Petroleum Commission (NNPC) for the establishment of an Integrated Methanol and Gas Plant in Odioma, Brass Island, Bayelsa State.
Plans for the project – which will be executed by Brass Fertilizer & Petrochemical Company Limited (BFPCL) – were perfected during the Signing Ceremony and Final Investment Decision (FID) held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja on Friday.
Delivering his remarks at the event, the Executive Secretary NCDMB, Engr. Simbi Kesiye Wabote FNSE, said: “Upon completion, the 10,000tonnes/day or 3.5million tonnes/year methanol plant will bring Nigeria onto the world map as one of the top-10 producers of methanol”.
Engr Simbi explained that the Board’s partnership with BFPCL to enhance delivery of the project would also provide opportunities in job creation, gas utilization, local availability of methanol for primary and secondary users, among other benefits.
While noting that the project reflects the mandate of the NCDMB, Engr Wabote stressed that there cannot be growth in Local Content when there is drought of projects.
He therefore congratulated the management and staff of Brass Fertiliser and fellow partners for their involvement in the important milestone, adding that the board looks forward to “the timely completion of the financial transactions and safe delivery of the project.”
Present at the Signing Ceremony and Final Investment Decision were the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mele Kyari, DSV Engineering for the BFPLC among other stakeholders.
