The President Donald Trump-led United States has delivered critical military equipment to Nigeria in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s ongoing fight against terrorism and other security threats.
The delivery was confirmed on Tuesday by the United States Africa Command, AFRICOM, in a statement posted on its verified X (formerly Twitter) account.
According to the command, the supplies were formally handed over to Nigerian authorities in Abuja.
“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and underscores our shared security partnership,” AFRICOM stated, while tagging the United States Mission in Nigeria, @USinNigeria.
The latest support highlights the deepening security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, as Nigerian security forces continue to confront terrorism, banditry, and violent extremism across several regions of the country.
The delivery follows Nigeria’s renewed request for enhanced military assistance from the United States in November 2025. The appeal, made by the Presidency under President Bola Tinubu, came after the United States designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern”.
Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the appeal at the time, stressing the need for stronger collaboration to address persistent security challenges.
Subsequently, on December 25, 2025, a joint air operation involving U.S. and Nigerian forces was conducted against terrorist targets in parts of the North-West region.
The Nigerian Government later confirmed that security and intelligence cooperation with the United States remains ongoing. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also disclosed that Nigeria is engaged in structured security collaboration with international partners, including the U.S., to combat terrorism and violent extremism.
According to the ministry, the cooperation includes intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and other forms of support, all carried out in accordance with international law, respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty, and shared security commitments.
