UNGA: Argentina President Milei Slams UN As “Useless Organisation”

Argentine President Javier Milei has launched a scathing criticism of the United Nations, describing the organisation as “useless” and accusing it of failing to fulfil the principles and responsibilities for which it was established.

Milei made the remarks during his address to the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, where he criticised the organisation’s approach to international law, national sovereignty, human rights and global security.

He argued that while the principles behind the creation of the UN were “noble”, the institution had failed to uphold them and had instead moved away from its original mission.

“It has become a useless organisation whose only purpose is to sustain a caste of fatally arrogant parasites masquerading as well-intentioned bureaucrats,” Milei said.

The Argentine President also accused the UN of failing to provide effective collective security and protect human rights, arguing that its shortcomings had contributed to the spread of violence, instability and terrorism.

Milei criticised what he described as the organisation’s treatment of Israel and its record on human rights.

“The alleged defenders of human rights have sheltered bloodthirsty dictatorships and regimes that stone women in the streets,” he said.

He further accused the UN of repeatedly voting against Israel while failing to adequately address what he characterised as Islamic terrorism and attacks against Christians in Africa.

Those statements represented Milei’s assessment of the UN’s record rather than findings presented as independent determinations by an international body.

The president also reaffirmed Argentina’s foreign-policy alignment with the United States, Israel and other Western countries, citing what he described as a “deep affinity of values”.

He condemned Iran’s actions against Israel and highlighted Argentina’s designation of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its Quds Force as terrorist organisations.

Milei also used his address to renew Argentina’s position on the Falkland Islands, known in Argentina as the Malvinas, describing the sovereignty dispute with the United Kingdom as a “national cause”.

He accused the UN of failing to enforce resolutions concerning the dispute and called for Britain to return to negotiations aimed at achieving a peaceful settlement.

The UN has continued to support dialogue and negotiations between Argentina and the UK over the Falklands/Malvinas dispute. In 2026, its Special Committee on Decolonization again adopted a resolution calling for negotiations between the two countries.

The United Kingdom maintains that the Falkland Islanders have the right to determine their own political status. In a 2013 referendum, 99.8 per cent of participating islanders voted to remain a British Overseas Territory, while Argentina rejects the application of self-determination to the sovereignty dispute.

Milei’s latest address extends his longstanding criticism of multilateral institutions and international governance, while reinforcing Argentina’s foreign-policy alignment with Washington and Jerusalem.
