Comoros have qualified for their first AFCON tournament with a game to spare.
The tiny African nation played out a goalless draw at home with Togo in their fifth Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Thursday to secure a spot at the tournament billed for next year in Cameroon.
The Island nation will now face Egypt in a dead rubber fixture in three days time after they earned eight points from five games.
Comoros, currently ranked 130 by FIFA, debuted competitively in 2010 World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and have improved consistently since suffering heavy home and away losses to Madagascar then.
The journey to AFCON ticket
The Comoros began their qualifying campaign with a shock win in Togo in October 2019 thanks to a goal from Faiz Selemani.
A draw with record seven-time African champions Egypt and a draw and victory over Kenya followed, leaving them trailing Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and his Pharaohs only on goal difference.
A key factor in the growth of the team from south east Africa has been stability with Marseille-born Abdou at the helm since 2014.
