Nigerians React as Singer Tope Alabi Criticises gospel song ‘Oniduro’

Popular Nigerian gospel singer Tope Alabi has come under fire for criticising a song titled “Oniduro” by one her colleagues, Yinka Alaseyori.

A video making rounds on the Nigerian digital space, showed Tope Alabi, criticising the popular Christian song, ‘Oniduro Mi’ which in English means ‘My Guarantor’.

In the video, Tope Alabi said God isn’t her guarantor because He’s more than a guarantor.

“With all that God is, and all the things that He does, somebody will now sing a song saying “my guarantor, I thank you’, God is not my Guarantor, He is more than that.

” I also like the song myself, but the day I wanted to sing it, the Holy Spirit asked me to shut up. This is not a matter of me saying the song is not good but when we get a song from the Spirit realm, there are things that we need to do with the Holy Spirit before releasing the Song. Otherwise, if we sing it the way we receive it, we will just be singing rubbish.

However, this did not sit well with a lot of Nigerians, as they have taken to social media to lambast the veteran singer as some accused her of being envious of how popular the song has become.

Below are some reactions:

This is the best time for that woman to use this free Pr wey Tope Alabi give her push that Oniduro mi song to bigger music platforms.

I love Tope Alabi so much but what she did is very wrong.

Yoruba people praise God with different karamo

Having “ oniduro” is a good thing, so I don’t see why God can’t be your oniduro.

She just Dey allow people mud Holy spirit now.

What she did is envy at its finest.

Someone that Tope Alabi should be mentoring to take up the baton, rather she's competing with her.

She's introducing her replacement to us unconsciously.pic.twitter.com/AGHDXiV5pG
