Canada Warns Citizens Against Non-Essential Travel To Nigeria

Instead of having to watch their wards remain idle at home, some parents in Kaduna State have decided to take their wards to learn vocational skills, as schools in the states remain shut indefinitely.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) interview with some parents in the state, they revealed that their wards were safer in these vocational centers, pending the resumption of schools in the state.

It would be recalled that the state government had on August 6 announced the postponement of resumption of schools till further notice, following the advice by security agencies.

The state government described the closure as a move done in the best interest of the pupils and students to ensure their safety, following series of attacks on schools by bandits and kidnappers.

Ibrahim Yusuf, a father of two, said the safety of children was paramount and urged government to use the radio, television and social media outlets to teach children at home.

Yusuf said he doesn’t leave his children idle, as he takes them to his welding workshop where to learn welding and metal fabrication.

“It is important to give children education and teach them vocational skills; that is why I am using this opportunity to teach my children since they can’t be in school,” he said.

For Hauwa Muhammad, she enrolled her 10-year-old child in a tailoring school to learn basic tailoring skills.

She commended the state government for taking proactive measures to ensure that school children were safe and urged government to do more in enhancing security so that children could go back to school.
