Top U.S. American physician and immunologist, Anthony Fauci has announced that the first doses of a successful COVID-19 vaccine would be made available for some hardest-hit Americans in late December or early January 2021.
Mr Fauci who heads U.S National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, made the disclosure via a Facebook chat on Thursday.
Citing leading vaccine developers, Pfizer and Moderna, Dr Fauci said Americans would confirm the existence or non-existence of a safe and effective vaccine in December.
He also noted that the first preliminary COVID-19 vaccine trial results should be out within the next few weeks.
It is worthwhile to note that Dr Fauci’s comments come as the United States reported no fewer than 74,000 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.
In addition, the U.S. coronavirus caseload currently stands at no fewer than 8.9 million, including 228,194 deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic.
