After losing her World Athletics Championship title to Jamaica’s Danielle Williams, Tobi Amusan, Nigeria’s sprint star has assured of her readiness to make improvements ahead of future competitive engagements.
The World record holder who spoke after coming 6th during the final of 100m hurdles in Budapest, Hungary on Thursday night, also apologised to fans for her dismal performance this term.

She said, “I just want to say a huge thank you to those who have been supporting me through the ups and downs, Ya’ll stood by me, kept praying for me, God bless you all, I am sorry I might have let you all down, but we will back stronger definitely.
“Yeah, it is a tough one; nobody likes to lose but considering what I have gone through in the past couple of months, I am so grateful that I came out.”
In her third consecutive final, Amusan ran in 12.62s, unable to match her 12.12s effort last year.
Williams won the race in a season-best of 12.43s while Olympic champion, Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn came second in 12.44s.
USA’s Kendra Harrison came third in 12.46s.
Amusan’s dethronement is a major upset as she had been the dominant force in the 100m hurdles since winning the gold medal at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon.
AIU Report
Meanwhile, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has released the report that cleared Tobi Amusan of committing an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) of Whereabouts Failure within a 12-month period.
The AIU Head, Brett Clothier had indicated the AIU is disappointed by this decision and will review the reasoning in detail before deciding whether to exercise its right of appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) within the applicable deadline.
Amusan’s provisional suspension was lifted with immediate effect and that enabled her to feature at the on-going World Athletics Championship in Budapest.
The AIU have 30 days which elapses on September 13, 2023, to decide whether or not to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
