Chelsea and Southampton played out a 1 – 1 draw in an intriguing Premier League encounter on Saturday as the Blues unbeaten run extended to six games under Thomas Tuchel.
Liverpool loanee, Takumi Minamino finished off brilliantly after taking Cesar Azpilicueta and Edouard Mendy out of the game with a dummy to break the deadlock before half-time.
However, the visitors struck back in the second half from the penalty spot through Mason Mount.
Danny Ings had brought down Mason Mount inside the box, and the Englishman stepped up himself to dispatch the spot-kick in style.
While both teams could only salvage a point from a tightly contested fixture, Tuchel’s substitutions wasted no time to grab headlines.
The 47-year-old introduced Callum Hudson-Odoi as second-half substitute in place of Tammy Abraham, but the young winger was withdrawn with 15 minutes on the clock in favor of the returning Hakim Ziyech.
Hudson-Odoi became the first player to be subbed on and off in the same Premier League game this season.
Speaking on why he withdrew Hudson-Odoi, unimpressed Tuchel said:
“With Hudson-Odoi, I was not happy with the energy and with the attitude and counter-pressing so we decided to take him off.”
Chelsea still maintain the fourth position on the table, with three points clear of champions Liverpool who are sixth behind West Ham.
The Blues will now turn attention to their UEFA champions League round of 16 tie against Atlectico Madrid in Bucharest, Romania on Tuesday.
