RB Leipzig centre back Dayot Upamecano will join Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, according to reports emanating from the Bavarian camp.
The Bundesliga champions beat the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea to the race to sign the imposing Frenchman.
Bayern reportedly triggered the defender’s €42.5m (£38m) release clause to have him join the club on a five-year contract until the summer of 2026.
“We’re happy that we’ve been able to sign Dayot Upamecano for FC Bayern München. Board member for sports Hasan Salihamidzic said on the club’s website.” We’re convinced that Dayot will be a very important member of our team in the coming years.”
The signing of Upamecano could create way for David Alaba to depart Bayern.
The 29-year-old Austria international has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent weeks as he winds down to his contract expiration this summer.
Upamecano has made 139 appearances for Leipzig across all competitions, including 26 during the 2020-21 campaign.
