Brighton forward Neal Maupay may have angered the football community with his furious reaction to being substituted with an injury after he missed a penalty against Liverpool in Saturday’s Premier League game.
The French man, in the midst of his frustration threw his black armband on the floor as he approached the tunnel.
The armband had been worn by Premier League players to commemorate the death of football icon Diego Maradona, who died of heart attack on Wednesday, 25 November 2020.
Maupay’s action in the game which ended in a stalemate draw, has led some fans to accuse the striker of being ‘disrespectful’ to Maradona.
Here’s how some football fans have reacted to the incident:
Maupay became the first player to start a game, miss a penalty, and then be subbed off before half-time since Dennis Bergkamp in 1998.
