After the heavy criticism that trailed Team Nigeria’s outfit in Rio four years ago, the Nigerian Olympic contingent kept last term’s disappointment behind to appear in their renowned Arewa costume (Kaftan) to mark the official opening of the Toyko games.
Team Nigeria athletes are known for their flamboyant attires which showcase their vast cultural backgrounds.
However, eyebrows were raised over the team’s outfit in Rio, as athletes were kitted in tracksuits, as the attires made for the opening ceremony could not make it to Brazil.
For this year’s edition, Team Nigeria styled in all white with a touch of green; representing the country’s flag.
The attire is common among people from the Northern part of the country.
In this year’s event, Nigeria will be competing in her 17th Olympics and has a total of 60 athletes taking parts in 10 sports.
