The Spanish Football Federation has slapped La Liga outfit, Barcelona with a fine of €3,000 (£2,700) following Lionel Messi’s goal celebration in honour of Diego Maradona.
The 33-year-old celebrated his goal in a 4 – 0 victory over Osasuna by taking off his Barcelona shirt to unveil the Newell’s Old Boy jersey – a club he also played for before moving to Europe.
Maradona, who died of a heart attack last week, played for Newell’s towards the end of his illustrious career.
However, Messi’s touching tribute to the legendary soccer star saw him receive a yellow card in the game. And now, the Royal Spanish Football Federation are poised to fine the club.
