After enduring a difficult season, Xavi Hernandez has announced his decision to quit Barcelona as head coach.
While reacting after his side lost 3-5 to Villarreal, coach Xavi who is a club legend from his playing days said he would step down at end of the season.
He said it was the best option for the team following recent occurrences in the team.
He said, “I have decided I will not continue beyond June 30 (the end date of his contract).
“It is a common-sense decision for the good of the club. I took this decision days ago. I already knew it. But it’s time to make it public.
“I think the players could not free themselves up. I don’t want to be a problem for the club, but the opposite.

“I wouldn’t change my decision even if I won the Champions League. I will tell the players tomorrow. I’m the most responsible one, so the players will finally feel free now.
“I’m not driven by financial matters, but by my heart. I think it’s the best thing for the club.
“I don’t want to be a problem, but a solution, and I believe that between now and June I can still be a solution.”
The 44-year-old led Barcelona to the Spanish Super Cup title and the Spanish league title last season, the club’s first trophies since the exit of Lionel Messi.
